How to Create an Aesthetic Instagram Feed

Everyone wants an aesthetically pleasing Instagram feed. Of course, aesthetic isn’t everything, but it is extremely important. As someone who’s in the fashion & lifestyle blogger space, it’s crucial that my feed is always looking on point. After doing this for a little over three years, I’ve learned a few things & I want to share with you exactly how to create an aesthetic Instagram feed. Let’s get into it…

#1 – Do your research

Are you a fashion blogger? A foodie account? Once you figure out what you want your Instagram niche to be, you can do your research. What do the successful people in your niche post? Take that into account when you’re curating your feed.

#2 – Gather inspiration

Pinterest is my favorite tool to gather inspiration. I have an entire board called “IG INSPO” and anytime I come across a pose, outfit, or overall photo that I love and want to take inspiration from, I save it to that board. You can also use the “save” feature on Instagram, so if you come across a post that you like & want to recreate, you can save it for later. Inspiration comes from all places and things. Sometimes I’ll take photos of signs or buildings when I’m out and about – art and home interiors are two things that also inspire me. You can take inspiration from anything. It’s just about what speaks to you.

#3 – Pick your color palette

You’ll generally want to stick to a few colors so your feed doesn’t become overwhelming. This is a major part of establishing your brand. What are your favorite colors? What colors do you enjoy wearing, or colors that are featured a lot in your home? These are a few questions to ask yourself to come up with the perfect color palette for your feed.

#4 – Use the same or a similar filter on all photos

I created 2 presets in Lightroom that I use for all of my photos (+ a black&white preset, if I’m feeling that vibe). Filters keep your feed looking consistent, AKA more aesthetic. You can create a filter in the free, Lightroom mobile app. OR there’s plenty of apps that have filters already created, and you can simply adjust things like brightness & contrast. Some of my favorite apps are: VSCO, Snapseed, Tezza app, Kuni cam & of course, Lightroom.

#5 – Download an Instagram planning app

There’s lots of apps specifically designed to plan out your Instagram feed. You can upload posts and move them around, to come up with the perfect feed. This will save you time & help you visualize what your feed will look like, to make sure you’re keeping up the aesthetic. My favorite apps for this are: Preview app, Apphi, and Planoly.

I hope you found this post helpful! Let me know if you want me to share more social media tips on the blog!

XO, Gigi
